Hugh Ross 'Hughie' Mackenzie was chairman of Auckland Harbour Board. He was president of Otahuhu Trotting Club on 28 July 1930 when the vote was taken to approve the merger with Auckland Trotting Club. For ten years he was chairman of the Mangere Road Board and the first chairman of the County Council of the same district where he had a farm. He also had an interest in the Auckland Stud Company and owned several horses.^^With research.
