(S.S.) Elingamite, half sovereign brooch, features a gold half sovereign dated 1903S claw set into a 15ct gold frame (27mm), comprising two circles between which are claw set alternating pearls and rubies, pin-back with loop provision for safety chain or for wearing as a pendant (tot wt 8.16g), on the obverse of the sovereign is inscribed 'Elingamite/1902/Lizzie'. Obverse and reverse of coin with scratches or grafitti, otherwise very fine.

The S.S.Elingamite was an Australian passenger steamer that was wrecked off the north coast of New Zealand on 9 November 1902. It was carrying a large consignment of coins for New Zealand banks including 6,000 gold half sovereigns.
