ST MATTHEW'S CHOIR, presentation vesta in silver, by A.B Ld. (Arthur Barnett & Co Ltd), hallmarked for Birmingham 1912, ring suspension at side, one side inscribed 'J.H.Runnicles/from the boys/Of/St Matthew's Choir/Xmas. 1913'. Some dents and some specific style lines inscribed into reverse, otherwise good fine and unique.

Mr J. Holmes Runnicles, (late of Southwark Cathedral, London) was the choirmaster and organist at St Matthew's Anglican Church at St Albans in Christchurch. He was presented with the above silver Vesta by the boys of the St Matthew's Choir for Christmas 1913. He was also presented with a cheque by Rev. P.B.Haggitt on behalf of the choir and the congregation in anticipation of his upcoming wedding to a member of the church choir, Miss Mabel Amy Cooper. The wedding was held on 1 January 1915 at St Matthew's Church and conducted by Rev. P.B.Haggitt assisted by Rev. E.H.Shore. Mr J. Holmes Runnicles operated his own voice production and pianoforte teaching studio in Christchurch and was Honorary Secretary of the Christchurch Diocesan Choral Association.
