THESSALY, Methylion, (4th century B.C.), dichalkon, AE 19mm, (3.82 g), obv. head of Nymph left, cmk. of Rams head, rev. Nike flying left with wreath in each hand, (S.-, Rogers 405, BCD 474.2, HGC 4, 694 [R2]); second coin, Thessaly, Larissa Kremaste, (3rd century B.C.), chalkous, AE 15, (3.61 g), obv. Nymph's head right, rev. harpa upwards, hook to right, all within wreath (S.2135, BCD 404.7, HGC 4, 16). First coin fine with even green patination and very rare, second coin very fine, first probably unique with cmk, second very scarce. (2)
Ex BCD Collection with his tickets. The countermark on the first coin suggested by BCD to signify a connection with Gonnos or more likely with the family clan of Menekrates who used a ram on his bronze issues from Methylion.
