INDIAN MUTINY MEDAL 1857-58, - three clasps - Lucknow, Relief of Lucknow, Delhi. Ser.t. Rd L.Shaw. 9th Lancers. Impressed. Contact marks, otherwise good very fine.

The 9th Lancers served at the siege and capture of Delhi, the Relief of Lucknow and the capture of Lucknow during the Indian rebellion and was the only regiment to be present at the three major actions of the campaign. The regiment earned the nickname, 'the Delhi Spearmen' and its members were awarded thirteen Victoria Crosses.
