SOLD $110

GERMANY, Northern, (Saxony), Heinrich IV, silver pfennig, probably an issue of Meissen (1065-1080), obv. cross with two pellets in each angle, rev. Maltese cross central device, both sides with traces of unreadable legend, (Jensen et al, Denmark's medieval treasure-hoards c.1050-1550, Copenhagen 1992, No.323 [p.236]). Hammered up edge, otherwise very fine and rare.

The hammered up edge suggests a provenance from Scandinavia as consequently paid to Vikings as 'danegeld'.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
