FAMILY GROUP: (Husband) Group of Four to POW: 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45 with miniature King's Badge attached. Unnamed.; (Wife) Single: War Medal 1939-45. WR.554. E.Fuller. Impressed. Very fine - good very fine.

Wife entitled to Australia Service Medal 1939-45.
Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 108 (lot 3595).
The group includes King's Badge and a miniature King's Badge (not the one attached to the medal group); aluminium tag with two Japanese characters at left (translated as abbreviation for English [POW]) and 766 at right (a Changi POW ID tag). The group of four unnamed medals has a collector's identification heading that reads, 'Lg.SMN. A.Fuller/Royal Navy/P.O.W. Changi 1943-45'.
Husband: Aubrey Albert Fuller, mariner, plaster moulder and mail officer, born 09Dec1910 at Lewes, Sussex, UK; Enlisted in British Merchant Navy as bedroom steward and embarked Liverpool on Armed Merchant Cruiser Transport Empress of Asia in Nov1941 carrying reinforcements for Singapore; ship attacked by Japanese aircraft near Sultan Shoal after leaving Bombay and sank with 16 KIA and 1,804 survivors rescued by allied ships; Fuller reported as POW 05Feb1942 and to Changi POW Camp at Singapore following Allied surrender on 15Feb1942; hostilities ceased 15Aug1945; recovered by Allies in Singapore 04Sep1945 and returned to Sydney; engaged on Stirling Castle in Sydney and sailed for London 14Nov1945; engaged on the Orion in Tilbury 13Mar1948; Disch.30Apr1948 in Sydney.
