AUSTRALIA'S COMMONWEALTH, 1899, fob medal in voided enamel and silver (30mm), by Stokes, ring top suspension. Very fine.

This badge was worn by supporters of Australia becoming a Commonwealth of States. In 1899 referenda on becoming a Commonwealth were held in all the colonies except Western Australia which held one in 1900. After this Australia became a Commonwealth on 1 January 1901.
