Iris with curved wings and outstretched hands in kneeling-running position to right, head to left, rev. rough triangular shape on crude incuse square, (S.-, Koray Konuk "The Early Coinage of Kaunos" in Essays Price, No.95, [same dies to obv. 9, rev. 6, only two reported, Pl.47], Hyla Troxell "Winged Carians" in Essays Thompson, No.7-9 [same reverse die pl.31], SNG Von Aulock 2344). Ex Sotheby's Auction Sale September 29, 1976 (lot 64 part). Lot includes extensive collector's descriptive ticket in a flip. A similar example in sale 133 (lot 3694) realised $1100. ^The attribution of these anonymous archaic coins has been given to Kaunos by Konuk. In a detailed argument on the reading of the Carian script on the later issues of similar type to this archaic issue, the dies used on this coin are however different and earlier than those noted by Konuk.
