FAUSTINA JUNIOR, wife of Marcus Aurelius, (died A.D.175), AE sestertius, Rome mint, (23.4 g), obv. draped bust to right of Faustina with hair bound down behind head, around FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, rev. LAETI TIA around, Laetitia standing to left, holding wreath and sceptre, S C across, (cf.S.1499, RIC 1654, C.149). Attractive even brown patination, weak on parts of the legend, otherwise nearly very fine/good fine and scarce.

Ex Cornelius C. Vermeule III, whose Collection was sold in Triton III (lot 1709 part) for the benefit of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, with his ticket and Noble Numismatics Sale 70 (lot 3504).
