LUCIUS VERUS, (A.D. 161-169), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 163, (21.70 grams), obv. laureate headed cuirassed bust of Lucius Verus, to right, around IMP CAES L AVREL VERVS AVG, rev. around FELIC AVG TR P III, COS II in exergue, SC across, ship with pilot and rowers to left, with mast and sail, (S.5368, RIC 1327, C.72). Weak reverse legends, otherwise fine and very scarce.
With old tickets from a Max Kiehn of Koln as purchased on Sept. 1, 1919 for 3.50 marks, previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 78 (lot 5164) realised $300.
