GORDIAN III, (A.D. 238-244), AE sestertius, issued 240, Rome Mint, (14.22 g), obv. laureate bust to right of Gordian III, draped and cuirassed, around IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, rev. Gordian standing to left, sacrificing over tripod altar holding short sceptre, around PM TR P III COS PP, SC across, (S.8724, RIC 292a). Lightly patinated, flan crack, very fine.
