LOYAL WORKERS INDUSTRIAL CRISIS 1917, uniface red, white and blue enamel silver plated bronze badge (29x25mm) (Smith, unlisted) (maker [?]), scroll and ring top suspension. Very fine and very rare.

Ex Downies Auction 318 (lot 1633).
This badge was given to Waterside Workers who defied the unions and remained at work during the general strike of 1917. These loyal workers or 'scabs' were in mortal danger from the strikers so the badges were generally hidden or disposed of because of possible repercussions for possessing one, even the maker avoided being identified on the badge.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
