ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Northumbria, Osberht, (849/50-67), copper styca, (1.14g, 14mm), Phase II, Group Dii, Reflectives series III, irregular issue immitating York mint, Monne, moneyer, obv. star with inverted and retrograded legend +OSbErHT rEX around, dotted border, rev. cross, +MONNE around, dotted border (S.869/872). Very fine.

c.f. CNG eAuction 511, lot 628 ($1,000 USD hammer), same dies. The legends feature individually retrograded letters, inversions, and reversions, the star motiff on the obverse is unusual for the type.
