JULIUS CAESAR, (assassinated 44 B.C.), gold aureus, Rome Mint, issued 46 B.C., moneyer A. Hirtius (8.04 g). obv. C CAESAR COS TER, veiled female head to right, dotted border, rev. A.HIRTIUS P R, lituus, jug and axe (emblems of the augurate and pontificate), dotted border, (S.1395, Cr.466/1, Syd.1017). Large flan, slight die flaw on reverse, attractively toned, good very fine and scarce.

Ex Rudolph Pekarek Collection. With collector's packet c.1930s.
