WILLIAM I "THE CONQUEROR", (1066-1087), silver penny (1.39g), Winchester mint, moneyer Leofwold, Pax type, obv. facing bust wearing double arched crown, lis-tipped sceptre in right hand, trefoil on shoulder, +PILLELM REX around, rev. cross patee, annulet in each angle spelling PAXS, +LIFPOLD ON WINC around (S.1257). 1mm off centre towards 7 o'clock on the obverse, otherwise extremely fine and strongly struck, scarce thus.
