SABINA, wife of Hadrian, (died A.D.137), AE sestertius, Rome mint, (25.1 grams), obv. draped bust to right of Sabina with hair bound down behind head, around SABINA AVGVSTA HADRIANI AVG P P, rev. VENERI GENETRICI around, Venus standing to right, holding an apple, S C across, (S.1195, RIC 1035, C.74). Attractive even dark patination, very fine/good fine and rare.

Ex Leopold G. P. Messenger Collection, Glendining's London Sale, November 21, 1951 (lot 149 part) and purchased from A.H. Baldwin, London April 25, 1953 by Cornelius C. Vermeule III, whose Collection was sold in Triton III (lot 1709 part) for the benefit of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, with his ticket.
