A.D.Burns/1 st" ; another prize medal in bronze (32mm) with ring top suspension, obverse inscribed, "30 th Batt./A.I.F./France", reverse inscribed, "1 Mile/Sgt A.D.Burns/2 nd "; Returned Sailors & Soldiers Imperial League badge (2 figure type), reverse number A25233; South Sydney Leagues Club Ltd Member badge 1969, reverse number 10095.^Military Medal ex S.Brooks 15/10/2020.^MM: Third Supplement No.30431 LG 14 Dec 1917.^Recommendation by Brig-Gen E.Tivey, CO, 8 Aust Inf Bde: During the preliminary operations to the attack on Polygon Wood this N.C.O. was in charge of a party of 50 men carrying ammunition from Hooge Crater forward to the front line on the night of 26-27/9/17. When moving up for the first time they were caught in a heavy barrage and Sgt Burns showed exceptional leadership and bravery in delivering the ammunition without delay at the correct spot. They made two trips up and back a distance of one and half miles each way thus having to pass through the barrage four times. Not a man was lost and this was entirely due to the splendid courage and leadership of Sgt Burns.
