When moving up for the first time they were caught in a heavy barrage and Sgt Burns showed exceptional leadership and bravery in delivering the ammunition without delay at the correct spot. They made two trips up and back a distance of one and half miles each way thus having to pass through the barrage four times. Not a man was lost and this was entirely due to the splendid courage and leadership of Sgt Burns.
