MACEDON, Kings of, time of Philip II - Alexander III, (340/36-328 B.C.), gold stater, (8.59 g), Amphipolis Mint, in the name and types of Philip II, obv. head of Apollo to right with laureate wreath, rev. galloping biga to right driven by charioteer holding kentron in right hand, reins in left hand, astragalos below, in exergue **FILIPPOU*, (cf.S.6663, Le Rider 28 [D12/R22], SNG ANS 245 (same dies). Some mint bloom, attractive portrait, good very fine or better and very scarce.
