MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, gold quarter stater, (2.12 g), Macedonian mint, probably Amphipolis, (c.330-320 B.C.), obv. head of Athena to right, wearing necklace and triple crested Corinthian helmet, decorated with a coiled serpent, dotted border, rev. kantharos above bow and club, **ALEXAN* below, **DR OY* above, (S.6710, Price 169, SNG BMC 169a-c). Well centred, very fine and a rare variety.
