MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, gold quarter stater, (2.16 g), uncertain mint in Western Asia Minor, (c.330-320 B.C.), obv. head of Athena to right, wearing necklace and triple crested Corinthian helmet, decorated with a coiled serpent, dotted border, rev. bow and club, inverted eagle standing right below, **ALEXAN* above, **DR OY* below, (cf.S.6710, Price 3132 corr [obv type Salamis], SNG Cop 655, SNG Munich 369, Troxell p.364). Struck slightly off centre, good very fine and very rare.

Ex Anthony (Tony) Taylor Collection.^CNG Auction 106, lot 176.^^CNG notes that there are none of this rarity in Pella or CoinArchives, apparently only two published, both in museums (the Copenhagen piece referenced and illustrated in Price, and the Munich piece by Troxell).
