SYRIA, Kingdom of, Seleukos I Nikator, (312-281 B.C.), gold stater, (8.58 g), Babylon I Mint, struck c.311-300 B.C. in the name and types of Alexander III, obv. head of Athena to right wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with griffin. rev. Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylis, [M]I in left field, monogram in wreath below left wing, in left field **BASILEW[S]*, in right field **ALEXANDROU*, (cf.S.6827, SC 81.3 corr. [griffin, not sphinx], Price 3749 corr. [same], HGC 9, 3a). A few surface marks, a powerful portrait, nearly extremely fine with mint bloom and rare.
