THRACE, Lysimachos, (323-281 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, issued after 281 B.C. about 160 B.C., Abydus Mint, (17.02 g), obv. Diademed head of Alexander the Great right wearing horn of Ammon, rev. Athena enthroned to left. holding Nike and resting left arm on shield; transverse spear resting against right side, on right **BASILEWS*, to left **LUSIMACOU, cornucopiae to left, monogram to left and right in exergue, A eagle standing to right within A-BY also in exergue (cf.S.6814, Thompson -, M.-, Mektepini -, cf.CNG 102 [lot 397, same dies illustrated], HGC -). Lightly patinated, very large flan extremely fine and extremely rare.
Ex Freeman & Sear, USA, private purchase in June 2009. Lot comes with retail ticket. Coin type not present in all published hoards, Seyrig nas cast 182.20 of the same dies.
