CLAUDIUS, (A.D. 41-54), AE sestertius, Rome Mint, issued A.D. 42, (30.08 g), obv. laureate head of Claudius to right, around TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG PM TR P IMP P P, rev. SPES AVGVSTA around, Spes draped advancing to left, right hand holding flower, left raising skirt, (S.1854, RIC 115, C.85, BMC 192, CBN 216). Mottled green and red patina, with a bold portrait, nearly extremely fine/extremely fine and very rare thus.

Ex CNG Auction Sale 75, 23 May 2007 (lot 993). This coin realised $2200 US in that sale. ^
