GORDIAN III, (A.D. 238-244), AE sestertius, Rome Mint, issued, A.D.240, (23.16 g), obv. laureate draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, around IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, rev. around VIRTVS AVG, SC across field, Virtus, helmeted, in military dress, standing facing with head to left, holding branch and spear, shield resting against right foot, (cf.S.8747, RIC 293a, C.390); another, (18.42 g), rev. Felicitas standing facing, head to left, holding caduceus and cornucopiae, around FELICIT TEMPOR, S C across, (S.8705, RIC 328a, C.73). Attractively toned, nearly very fine - very fine. (2)
