Military Medal (GVR); British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal; British War Medal 1939-45; Australian Service Medal 1939-45. 4517 Cpl R.Morgan 45/Aust:Inf on first medal, 4517 Cpl R.Morgan 1 Bn A.I.F. on second and third medals, NX147859 R.Morgan on last two medals. Impressed. Very fine.
Reuben Morgan. Enl.2Aug1915. W.I.A. three times 21Feb1917 Stormy Trench, 5Apr1918 Dernancourt, 17Aug1918 Lihons. R.T.A.12Dec1918. M.M.:C.G.No.185 27Nov1918. 'For his leadership, courage and devotion to duty whilst on patrol in Dernancourt, south west of Albert on night of 1st April 1918. After reaching the nearest houses on the outskirts of the village two machine guns concealed on the right of the patrol opened fire, thus cutting the patrol off. This unforeseen event placed the patrol in a tight corner and would have been disastrous if it had not been for the presence of mind and initiative of Cpl Morgan, who immediately rallied his section, crawled forward under heavy machine gun fire, and when ten yards from the guns threw bombs, blowing up the guns and saving the situation from his flank'. Mentioned in Beans Official History W.W.I., Vol V p.360. Noted on Australian War Memorial records as a Lieutenant during W.W.II. with number NX47859 and listed as Prisoner of War. With Lieutenants commission, pay books, demobilization procedure books, Identity discs, letters, postcards, gold omega watch inscribed on back Lt R.Morgan / From / POW's / 1946, chronicle of 45th Battalion A.I.F., wooden cigarette box, mandolin, Sam Brown belt and some research.
