Estimate $200
Bid at live.noble.com.au

NETHERLANDS, Overyssel, silver rider or ducatoon, 1734, salvaged from the 1735 wreck of VOC Vliegend Hart (Flying Hart). Corrosion damage between 12 and 3 around edge, toned, otherwise very fine.

Ex Alan McRae Collection with his display ticket.^^The Flying Hart was commissioned by the Zeeland Chambers of the VOC, and it's cargo of silver riders were likely smuggled aboard by a senior official as their export was forbidden. The ship sank after hitting a sandbank 18km off the coast of Vlissingen, with all lives lost.
