DCM TRIO TO WIA: Distinguished Conduct Medal (GVR in Field Marshall's uniform); British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal1914-19. 2396 L.Cpl A.C. Monro. 15/ Aust:Inf: on first medal, 2396 Sgt A.C.Monro. 15 Bn. A.I.F. on last two medals. All medals impressed. Very fine.

Entitled to 1914-15 Star.^Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 53 (lot 4752) 9/4/1997.^DCM: LG 14/11/1916, p11106, position 4; CAG 19/4/1917, p923, position 18.^Citation: For conspicuous gallantry in action. He handled three trench mortars with great courage and ability. Later with his crew he dug an emplacement in the open under very heavy fire. He set a splendid example of coolness and determination throughout the operations. ^(Note: Monro's conduct during these few days was a great example to his men, and though slightly wounded and badly bruised from a shell-splinter, he only left on receiving another wound in the face and head.)^Alexander Colville Monro, carpenter, age 36, born at Arbroath, Scotland; Enl.11May1915 at Brisbane, Qld; Emb.20Aug1915 with RFTS for 15Bn; served in Gallipoli and France; WIA at Mosquet Farm 30Aug1916 GSW face and right shoulder and was awarded a DCM; married Isabella Strachan of Abroath, Scotland on 26Nov1916 while recuperating; to Sgt 11Apr1917; attached to 12 Training Bn in UK and then rejoined 15Bn in France in 1918; injured ankle 31May1918 and evacuated to England; Rtn to unit in France 10Oct1918; RTA 20Jun1919; Disch.10Oct1919.^With copy of Service File and other research including copy of Commonwealth Gazette entry.
