GROUP OF SIX: 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; Burma Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. QX46576 W.Bucknall. The first three medals engraved, the last three impressed. Swing mounted, mark at top left of second ribbon, otherwise very fine .

William Bucknall, telegraphist, age 19, born at Brisbane, Qld; Enl.03Dec1941 (Army No.102704) at Annerley, Qld; to 23rd Wireless Section (QX46576); served in Darwin 17Jun1943-20Feb1944, Morotai 10May-21Jul1945; to Cpl 27Jul1945; emplaned for Sumatra 05Aug1945 and detached to "SEAL" for special duty until 22Dec1945; Disch.17Jun1946. On 07May1986 Bucknall enquired about confirming his eligibility to join "Z Special Unit Association of NSW" - this is likely in reference to his proposed attachment to the Z Special Forces for "special duty" between 05Jul and 22Dec1945 in Sumatra.
