MN. AQUILLIUS MN.F.MN.N., (c.71 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.81 grams), obv. Virtus helmeted bust to right, VIRTVS III.VIR around, rev. Consul Man. Aquillius raising Sicilia, MN AQVI[L M]N F MN N to left and right, SICIL in exergue, (S.336 [£65 VF], Cr.401/1, Syd.798, B.Aquillia 2 [£40]). Off centred on reverse, serrated edge, good very fine and scarce.
Type refers to the successes in Sicily of Man. Aquillius (consul 101 B.C.) and to the exceptional valour which he displayed throughout the war.
