Lot 862    Session 3 (2.30pm Wednesday)    GB Tokens

Estimate $180
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $200

YORKSHIRE, Hull, I.K. Picards Hull Lead Works penny, 1812, legend both sides, error with name spelt J. R. Prichard (Davis 91, Withers 795a) and halfpenny 1812 (Davis 95). The first damaged as always, otherwise only fine, but very rare and only a few known, second token good extremely fine. (2)

Ex W.J. Noble Collection, Noble Numismatics Sale 58 (lot 1944), the first from Seaby in 1969 with priced ticket, second ex W.G. Wright Collection. The issue of Davis 91 must have been diliberately defaced after the error was discovered and presumably a handful were saved from the melting pot. Another view is that they are deliberate contemporary counterfeits made to defraud Picards issues (Withers p.123).

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
