Lot 1248    Session 5 (7.30pm Wednesday)    Syd Mint Two Pounds

Estimate $50,000
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $45,000

QUEEN VICTORIA, Sydney mint proof or pattern two pounds, 1887, Jubilee head. Contact marks, particularly on the obverse field otherwise nearly FDC and excessively rare.

This coin appeared in commerce for the first time in 1996 emanating from Paris. It was offered as lot 749 in the Sotheby London sale on 6th&7th Nov 1997 in its only previous auction appearance. It would appear to be a proof presented to a VIP at the time of issue and then ended up straying from secure handling until it's recent appearance. It may well be ex Murdoch Collection.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
