SICILY, Syracuse, (c.450-439 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.165 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer, Nike flying right crowning charioteer, rev. **SURAKOS[ION] around to right, head of Artemis-Arethusa to right, wearing wide head band, A on neck, four dolphins around, (cf.S.931, Boehringer 700 same dies [obverse 345/reverse 478 dies], Jameson 784 [same dies]). Slightly off centred on the reverse, attractive dark tone, otherwise good very fine and rare.

A 'signed piece' with the letter A on the neck and known on a few dies at this time. Boehringer notes only 4 specimens from these dies and this probably from the Cahn Sale 33, 3rd November 1913 (lot 139).
