ATTICA, Athens, (500-490/482 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.45 grams), obv. crude Archaic style head of Athena to right wearing Attic helmet with large chevrons and dots, rev. owl standing to right, head facing with broad neck, olive twig and three leaves, to right, **A[QE], all in incuse square, (S.1842 [£1000], Sv. Pl.4, No.34 [apparently the same dies], cf.Asyut Hoard 289 [Group IVc], Seltman Group G, No.361, [A236, P302, similar if not the same dies], SNG Cop. 15-18). Small flan as usual, slightly off centred, with attractive tone, good fine and very rare.
