TRAJAN, (A.D. 98-117), silver denarius, issued 114-117, Rome mint, (2.714 grams), obv. laureate bust, draped to right of Trajan, around IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GER DAC, rev. Trajan's Column with two eagle's at base, around P M TR P CO S VI P P S P Q R, (S.991 [£150], RIC 356, RSC 284a). Well centred, nearly fine and rare.

The coin is accompanied with an envelope noting purchase at Paestum, January 12, 1898. The subject Trajan's Column is one of the few surviving monuments from Ancient Rome still seen today in Rome that was featured on a Roman coin.
