U.S.A., late 19th century fantasies of California gold half dollars, one octagonal dated 1855, another round dated 1858, both with a bear below the 1/2 on the reverse (cf.Burnie 'Small California and Territorial Gold Coins' Nos.42-44 [p.84]). Extremely fine. (2)

The law of 1882 prevented the use of the word dollar on these pieces and many varieties were made as jewelry items after that date.
