RUSSIA, Peter I, white medal, 71mm, issued 1792, commemorating 90 years anniversary of the campaign for the year 1702 with the capture of Schlussenburg fortress or castle in 'Estonia', obv. Peter I laureate draped bust to right, rev. assault on beseiged fortress by artillery and ships; together with 50mm plaster casts of obverse and reverse of the 1709 battle of Poltava medal. Very fine; extremely fine, the medal rare. (3)

Notteburg was the key to the Neva river and Livonia. After the capture of the fortress by siege, in which Peter participated as a captain of bombardiers, he changed the name of the town to Schlusselburg (key fortress).
