JULIUS CAESAR, (assassinated 44 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued February-March 44 B.C., an issue immediately prior to Caesar's assassination on the Ides (15th) March, issued in the name of the moneyer P. Sepullius Macer, obv. laureate and veiled head of Julius Caesar to right, CAE[SAR] before, DICT PERPE[TVO] behind, rev. Venus standing to left, holding Victory on extended right hand, and sceptre in left hand, resting on shield, set on globe, to right P. SEPVL[LIVS MACER], (S.362, Cr. 480/12, Syd.1074, BMC 4173-5). Off centred on reverse, weak in places, with flat areas, clear portrait and dark tone, otherwise nearly very fine and a rare type.
