CALIGULA, (A.D. 37-41), AE as, Rome mint, issued A.D. 37-38, (10.866 grams), obv. bare head of Caligula to left, around C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS PON M TR POT, rev. VESTA above, Vesta seated to left, veiled and draped seated on ornamental throne, holding patera and transverse sceptre, S C across field, (S.1803 [£100 F), RIC 38, BMC 46). Dark patina, minor surface flaws, porosity on the reverse, otherwise good fine and rare.
