SOLD $85,000
GEORGE VI, Royal Mint pattern penny 1937. Toned blue brown with some mint red, particularly in the reverse, good extremely fine and extremely rare, one of the most important commonwealth coins.
Ex Spink Australia Sale 15 (lot 680). Owing to the abdication of Edward VIII a regular coinage with this new design could not be introduced in Australia until 1938. The London Mint prepared a few patterns for approval, we know of only six in private hands, probably less than ten were struck.
Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
