IONIA, Magnesia on the Maeander, (after 165 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.762 grams), obv. diademed bust of Artemis to right with bow and quiver at shoulder, rev. Apollo standing to left on meander pattern, holding branch tied with fillety, and resting left elbow on tall tripod surmounted by quiver, to left **MA GNHTWN*, to right **APOLLODWROS* and **KALLIKRATOU*, all within laurel wreath, (cf.S.4485, Jones [ANSMN 24], [p.101], Nos.4b [same obverse die], Hunter 8 [p.347], Pozzi 2463). Lightly toned, golden hue on reverse, weak at neck of obverse, otherwise extremely fine and rare.
Ex Empire Coins, New York Auction Sale No.,7, May 2, 1987 (lot 58, illustrated, $1500). Some 17 examples of this type were known to Jones for this pair of Magistrates.
