PHRYGIA, Laodikeia, (c.100-90 B.C.), silver cistophoric tetradrachm, (12.698 grams), obv. cista mystica containing serpent, all within ivy wreath, rev. bow in case between two coiled serpents, to left **LAO*, to right a caduceus eith fillet, monogram of **AIG* above, (cf.S.5147, SNG von Aulock -, SNG Cop. -, BMC 13 [variant monogram]). Extremely fine and unpublished except for the few examples listed all coming from the one hoard.

A extremely rare symbol from a scarce mint of cistophori. A similar example in a CNG Sale Triton VI (January 14, 2003 lot 425) from of the same type with same symbols was sold at US $525 +15%.
