SYRIA, Kingdom of, Seleucus I, (312-280 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.784 grams), Ecbatana mint, Newell dates 293-280 B.C., Series III, Group D, SC dates from 295 B.C, obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, in left field anchor with flukes upwards and horse forepart grazing left, HAP monogram also to left and below throne MI monogram, to right **SELEUKOU* upwards, in exergue **[BA]SILEW[S], (cf.S.6829, SC 204.5a, Newell ESM 500, ACNAC Houghton 1129, SNG Cop. -). Worn obverse die and reverse with surface roughness and light corrosion, otherwise nearly very fine and very scarce.

Ex recent 'Seleucid Hoard'. Newell knew of 5 examples of this type from all dies.
