ANONYMOUS SERIES, (c.220 B.C.), AE cast sextans, (33.4 grams), obv. Mercury head, wearing winged petasus, two pellets behind head, rev. prow to right, two pellets below, (S.587 [£100 F], Cr.35/5, Syd.76). Dark green patina with brassy highlights, fine - very fine and scarce.

This is a cast Romano-Campanian issue, thickness of 9mm, stuck to the reduced liberal standard with an initial weight for the as of 264 grams and a sextans of 44 grams in c.225 B.C. By 217 the semi-liberal standard of an as was 132 grams.
