Q. POMPONIUS MUSA, (c.66 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.462 grams), obv. Apollo laureate head to right, [scroll behind], rev. Clio, the Muse of History, standing to left, resting elbow on pedestal, holding an open scroll, Q. POMPON[I] on right, MVSA on left, (S.353 [£165 VF], Cr.410/3, Syd.813, B. Pomponia 11). Off centred obverse, otherwise good fine/fine and very rare.
The Musa types are always collected because of their association with the arts. Clio was the Muse of history and is potrayed on this coin with her attributes. Less than 10 dies were utilised for this type according to the study by Crawford.
