OCTAVIAN (LATER AUGUSTUS), (27 B.C. - A.D. 14), silver denarius, Rome ? mint, issued 28 B.C. (3.490 grams), obv. bare head of Octavian to right, around CAESAR [COS VI], lituus behind, rev. crocodile to right, AEGYPTO above, CAPTA below, (cf.S.1564 [£1000 VF], RIC 19, RSC 2, BMC 243, B. Julia 148). Banker's mark in reverse field, otherwise fine and very rare.

The issue refers to the subjugation of Egypt, after the battle of Actium and the daths of Antony and Cleopatra.
