MACRINUS, (A.D. 217-218), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.39 grams), issued 217, obv. bearded cuirassed Macrinus with laureate bust to right, around IMP C M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AVG. rev. Fides standing facing, head to left, holding standard in each hand. around FI/EDES MIL P M TR P, (S.-, RIC 1, RSC 30). Trace of original mint bloom, nearly extremely and rare.
Ex. CNG Sale 49 March 17, 1999 (lot 1674 US$150). The normal reverse legend is rare, the re-engraving of the I over the E in FIDES has not previously been noted.
