GEORGE V, Melbourne Mint proof penny 1930. Red and brown toned FDC and extremely rare, one of only three in private hands and the finest of these.

Ex British Museum duplicates in 1981 and Spink Australia privately in 1987 when a world record $150,000 was paid at that time. The location of six known specimens:- 1) British Museum ex Melbourne Mint. 2) Museum of Victoria ex Melbourne Mint Collection 3) Art Gallery of South Australia Collection ex Melbourne Mint. 4) A.M. Le Souef (Deputy Master Melbourne Mint), S.V. Hagley, Dr C.R. Paxman, Dr A Dobbin and now Douglas Moran Collection (ex Spink Australia Sale 8, lot 957) 5) The present coin 6) Noble Numismatics Sale 54, July 1997 (lot 1437) from an old Melbourne Collection and ex Melbourne Mint, now held in a private collection in Australia. The opportunity to acquire the King of Australian Coins is rarely presented to collectors and with the recent sale in New York of the Class I 1804 dollar for a world record six million dollars, the potential investment value represented in acquiring this coin by the astute collector cannot be understated.
