C. COELIUS CALDUS, (c.51 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.99 grams), obv. C. COEL CALDVS before head of the consul C. Coelius Caldus to right, boar lower right, COS below, standard inscribed HIS behind, rev. L.CALDVS III VIR EP on base between two trophies, figure seated above base, CALDVS III VIR in exergue, on left I/M/P/A/X, to right [C CALDVS] off flan, (cf.S.309 [£250], Cr. 437/2b, Syd.895, B.Coelia 9). Slightly off centred, otherwise good very fine and rare.
Ex. Antiquarius, New Zealand, November 15, 1986. Only 33 obverse dies used for all types of denarii of this magistrate.
