LIVERPOOL SHIPWRECK AND HUMANE SOCIETY 1839, award medal in silver (39mm) edge inscribed 'CAPT. THOS. AMLOT, S.S.'BARROWMORE for having rescued 26 of the crew of ship 'KIRKWOOD' Feb 24 1885'. Sold with typed letter extract from 46th Annual Report, year ended 1st July 1885, page 10. Attractively toned with original ribbon suspension.

Ex Spink Sale 8 (lot 641). The Kirkwood was dismasted and abandoned in a sinking condition during a heavy gale in the Atlantic. After 14 hours waiting alongside Captain Amlot of the Barrowmore affected a successful rescue by life boat.
